About the Role
About The Company:
A well-established school in East London is seeking an experienced Interim Estates Manager to provide immediate operational support across its single-site estate. The school is undergoing a significant rebuilding programme and requires a confident, hands-on estates professional to maintain safe, compliant and effective facilities operations.
The Role:
We are looking for an Interim Estates Manager to start immediately on a full-time basis, working onsite five days per week. This is a rolling interim assignment, likely running until December, with the potential for extension.
You will take ownership of estates, facilities, maintenance, compliance and contractor management, while leading the site function and supporting a major capital and rebuilding programme.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead the estates and facilities function across a single school site.
• Develop and deliver the estate strategy, maintenance plans and costed asset-management plan.
• Oversee planned and reactive maintenance, grounds, utilities, security and site services.
• Ensure statutory compliance, risk assessments, audits, health and safety systems and estates documentation remain up to date.
• Manage contractors, maintenance providers, outsourced services, contracts and leases.
• Coordinate regular condition surveys and prioritise maintenance and capital-improvement works.
• Represent the school at site and project meetings with contractors, consultants and external stakeholders.
• Support capital-project delivery, including the ongoing school rebuilding programme.
• Strengthen business-continuity, contingency and risk-management arrangements.
• Oversee the maintenance ticketing system and ensure issues are resolved promptly.
• Manage community lettings and use of school premises by external organisations.
Desirable Skills:
• Extensive estates and facilities-management experience within a school, academy or multi-academy trust environment is essential.
• Strong working knowledge of statutory compliance, health and safety, facilities management and planned maintenance.
• Experience managing contractors, capital works and refurbishment or construction projects.
• Confident people manager with experience leading site-based teams.
• Able to work independently, prioritise competing operational demands and respond calmly to urgent issues.
• Available to start immediately and commit to working onsite five days per week.
Benefits:
• Competitive day rate.
• Opportunity to play a key role in a significant school-estate and rebuilding programme.
• Immediate start within a collaborative education environment.
